College Credit
for Study of Indian Languages
In a changing world where there will be more interactions between the
US
and
India
, we must recognize the need to master the languages of
India
and other Asian countries. We seek support from all candidates for college credit
for the study of various Asian languages including Sanskrit, Hindi, Tamil, Gujarati,
Marathi, Bengali, Oriya, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Sindhi, Sinhalese,
and Nepali.
Hindu Studies
Programs at Public Institutions
Many academics who educate students about Hindus are practitioners of other faiths.
Hence, they continue the tradition of misleading students and the public at large
about Hindus, their history, and their religious traditions. Government-funded programs
in all universities should require that instructors be practitioners of any of the
traditions within the Hindu Dharma and supported by the community. We do not want
taxpayer dollars to be wasted in funding programs that mislead the world about Hindus
and their faith.
Discrimination
in Hiring and Promotion
We strongly oppose the discriminatory practices adopted by many academic institutions
in the hiring and promotion of faculty members and the granting of admissions to
students. We ask strict enforcement of federal Civil Rights laws to prevent all
such discrimination in the future.
Visas to Communists
from
India
and Other Countries
We seek the strict compliance of federal laws mandating the rejection of visas to
members of any communist organizations. Several thousand students and scholars who
have immigrated from
China
,
India
,
Vietnam
,
Nepal
,
Sri Lanka
, and other Asian countries are believed to have had active prior involvement in
various communist groups in the colleges of their country of origin. This is in
clear violation of our existing immigration policy.
Communists from
South Asia
pose a grave threat to
US
national security because of their strong anti-American beliefs and close ideological
ties to radical Islamic organizations.
Especially in the context of Jihadi Terrorism, an intense but humane scrutiny of
all applicants is essential. All those who had entered the US by providing false
information regarding their affiliation to communist groups must be prosecuted immediately for such violations and deported to
the country of origin if found guilty of wrongdoing. Their continued presence in
the
US
will be a major impediment in furthering US-India ties. Hence, we urge all law makers
to address this serious problem swiftly.
India
Studies Programs
There is an effort in academia to establish
South Asia
departments or programs for the study of the region, primarily
India
. However, we seek the support of all elected officials for funding India Studies
programs at all universities.
India
should not be clubbed together with other nations of the region. Such programs also
help in creating a “South Asian” identity for many people. We are totally and unequivocally
opposed to such anti-Hindu and anti-Indian efforts by extremist elements in academia,
media, and politics.
Military Draft
Millions of American college students have serious apprehensions about the reintroduction
of the draft. We believe that an all-volunteer army is the best answer for our country’s
security needs, and therefore, we strongly oppose the reintroduction of any type
of military draft. There exists a wide gap in the morale of those who willingly
volunteer and those who are forced to serve. Hence, a highly motivated force with
high morale is a better choice for meeting today’s security needs. We strongly encourage
efforts for the recruitment of Hindu American youths to serve in
America
’s armed forces.
